Position Snapshot: The Regional Safety Manager plays a key role in implementing and enforcing all aspects of the corporate safety program within the assigned region, consisting of five (5) operating locations across Northern VA, PA, WV, and MD. This position will assist in guiding and coaching employees on general safety practices, correcting unsafe behaviors, and implementing best practices through a team effort daily. You will shape safety expectations for all employees by delivering safety training programs as well as participating in and assisting with planning of onsite safety meetings. You will also provide support to plant leadership to achieve the ultimate goal of creating a safe working environment for all employees.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Perform weekly/daily safety audits at each location within the designated region, and review findings with employees and supervisors.
  • Assist plant supervision in creating a safe work environment by implementing new ideas and processes.
  • Attend and participate in all weekly and monthly safety meetings as scheduled at each site.
  • Perform site inspections and risk analysis that may include job hazard analysis, noise/dust surveys, specific energy control procedures, etc. for individual work areas and equipment.
  • Assist plant leadership with injury/incident investigations and provide direction and follow-up on corrective actions.
  • Assist plant supervision with review, update, implementation, and enforcement of safety programs as needed.
  • Assist General Manager and/or plant leadership in managing/implementing company safety training programs (e.g., Confined Space Training) and conducting training on safety subject matters as required.
  • Work with the GM on weekly and monthly safety focus items, including HS&E Alerts and other relevant communications.
  • Assist with other tasks/projects designed to promote safety and overall improvement of plant functions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must have a solid foundation and working knowledge of OSHA 1910 General Industry and 1926 Construction standards.
  • Expert knowledge of safe work practices, identifying hazards, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing and be comfortable speaking in front of large groups.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with highly sensitive information.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to regularly travel 3-4 days a week, with occasional overnight stays as required. 
  • Working knowledge of injury/incident investigations and processes.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • 5-7 years of hands-on experience in the HS&E field in a manufacturing or construction environment.
  • OSHA 30 certified or equivalent.
  • OHST, ASP, CHST certifications a plus.
Requirements:
  • Must reside in the continental U.S. within the assigned region. (NoVA, PA, WV, or MD.) No relocation assistance is provided.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer.
Typical Schedule: Work is generally performed Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week depending on workload. Regular travel to plants within the assigned region is required.
Typical Physical Demands: Physical agility, which may require any or all of the following: standing, sitting, walking, climbing, reaching, bending/stooping, lifting (50lbs. max), pushing/pulling (50lbs. max).
Working Conditions: This position is physically demanding and often requires work outdoors, with exposure to all types of weather conditions. Work is performed in a production environment, with ambient air conditions, loud noise, dangerous equipment, and variable lighting. Dirty and dusty conditions at times which may require respirator protection, and at times Controlled Confined Space work and working with chemicals. Office work will be performed in clean, climate-controlled areas with fluorescent lighting.
Compensation: Based on skills, knowledge, and experience.
